1:38 am - New poster here

gipsy_queen
Hi folks,

As this is my first post on this community I thought I'd make it a meaningful one. In the UK as I'm typing this it's 1.39am. I'm usually in bed by now, but I've been watching a documentary on television that had me so riveted I had to stay up and watch it in its entirity.

It was called Peace One Day and told the story of the United Nations Day Of Peace and the guy that has done so much to get it recognised.

I have to say at this point, to be perfectly honest I'd not heard of it until I watched this programme.

Here's a link to the BBC website and the page about it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/documentaries/storyville/peace-one-day.shtml

I have put a post in my own journal about this that I have made public (most of my posts are friends only).

It would be fantastic if the other members of this community could link to this link and in turn urge their friends to also, and so on. This year's Day is this coming Wednesday, September 21st. The website also includes a link for initiatives for this year here.

I really do believe that this is so important that we need to do what we can to spread the word.

Thanks.

X-posted (but not word-for-word) from my own journal.

Hey, if anyone's in a good mood and has some free time, I was thinking it'd be great to have a banner to promote the community. Maybe a bunch of flags with peacefulnations written on it. I'm not sure, but it'd be really cool.

The reason I'm asking is cause I'm in the advertising mood...

Oh, and let's hope that the U.S. soldiers settle things over in Iraq and not kill any civilians. For those over in Iraq, both soldiers and civilians, I hope you all stay safe.

12:17 pm - One Tin Soldier

morganfaithful
Hello! Okay, some of you might remember the song, "One Tin Soldier"? Well, it's an awesome song, and if you've never heard it, you might want to ask a Choir teacher, or parent, or whatever for the tune, cause I'm givin ya the words...

Listen children to a story that was written long ago
'bout a kingdom on a mountain and the valley folk below.
On the mountain was a treasure buried deep beneath a stone,
and the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill
asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which they'd kill.
Came an answer from the kingdom: "With our brothers we will share
all the secrets of our mountain, all the riches buried there."

Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away.

Now the valley cried with anger; mount your horses, draw your sword,
and they killed the mountain people, so they won their just reward.
Now they stood beside the treasure on the mountain, dark and red,
turned the stone and looked beneath it. "Peace on earth" was all it said.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away.

P.S. Feel free to post and introduce yourselves. ;)

3:43 pm - Welcome!

morganfaithful

Hey everyone! Let me tell you how this community got started. I had the pleasure of getting to read an article about an American Soldier falling in love with an Iraqi woman. This is a beautiful story, and I hope to post it sometime.

Anyway, I wanted to find a way for this to mean more to me. So, I decided to start a community. I hate wars, I wish everyone would just get along. I ended up making it a world peace community.

Go ahead and join if you like the topic and want to do something to help.

Basically what we do here is discuss problems in our native society, and country, and try to find ways to fix them. We can also come up with some ways to settle disagreements without going to war.

Before I leave today, I have a song I wrote about that article I told you about.

Why can't we all love like that?Collapse )

Peace in the world is my motto.

~Morgan

P.S. Community News - I'll be working on a layout or something soon. If anyone knows any premade layouts that might fit this community, let me know, or if you want to make one or whatnot....
